Assisting Alcohol Recovery

Discussion group

A weekly group that discusses the wide topic of alcohol recovery and at monthly meeting discuss the community’s social calendar. House meetings encourage discussion and constructive communication.

Sport facilities

A wide range of gym equipment can be found in our mini gym with a variety of exercise machines including a full set of weights. A snooker room, a games room, gymnasium, half-size badminton court and two full size table tennis tables provide plenty of opportunity for exercise.

Educational support

We can provide essential skills classes when appropriate and literacy classes may be available at the local college. Devon County library provide a fortnightly mobile library at Francis House.

Computer skills

There are computers in the local library at Barnstaple with access to basic computer skills. Tuition may be provided at the local college.

College and distance learning

The local community college provides numerous courses to help develop skills, abilities and hobbies. Clients have enrolled for courses as varied as archaeology, art, car maintenance, literacy and self development.

Therapy rooms

Containing a music room, library and chapel the therapy rooms have seasonal therapeutic activities such as art, poetry and music groups. Activities are voluntary and attendance is encouraged.

Countryside walks

Allowing clients the opportunity of enjoying the benefits and relaxation of county walking in an area of natural beauty.

UNESCO decided that North Devon is an environment that ranks with some of the best in the world, and recently designated a large part of the area as a World Biosphere Reserve.
