Daily support is provided through two specialist counsellors for alcohol dependency and full and part-time care workers experienced in residential work.

Respecting the need for dignity, confidentiality, trust and privacy care workers are skilled in dealing with the problems associated with addictive behaviour, learning disabilities, cognitive impairment, physical disabilities and mental health problems.

Training and Qualifications

As an ‘Investor in People’ Assisi Community Care works towards excellence of service through the training provision it affords its staff. All care support workers are fully conversant with current legislation and have certificated qualifications in:

  • NVQ Health and Social Care 2
  • NVQ 3 Health and Social Care/Danos
  • Health and Safety
  • Food Hygiene
  • First Aid
  • Moving and Handling
  • Diabetes Care
  • Fire Safety
  • Infection Control

Staff development is ongoing using the local college and distance learning. Induction and case study reviews are held that involve clinical and general issues to help give care support workers a clearer understanding of what quality care involves.

Training packages are developed using new policy legislation and care planning for monthly meetings along with clinical booklets referencing alcohol and liver disease, alcohol detoxification, Wernicke Korsakoff’s syndrome and information helpful for family members of the alcohol dependent.

Medication is administered by care workers who have the Safe Handling of Medicines Certificate and practice the guidance of the British Pharmaceutical Society for the control of prescribed drugs.

The option to self-administer is dependent on risk assessment. Prescriptions for controlled drugs are separately risk assessed.
